Creating a Cohesive Team

How’s it going?

Warmington Homes has been around since the 1920’s and they’re clearly doing something right to be in business for over 100 years!

I worked for them for 23 years and they taught me what teamwork really means 🤝

They truly lead by example. Being kind, teaching and being open to listening to new ideas.

They would give me constructive criticism because they wanted me to be successful.

I learned that I’m not the expert in everything, so I had to look to other members for assistance and help build my team.

My hope for you is that your business is dialed in, and your team is working like a well oiled machine.

Here’s what creating a cohesive team looks like:

Establish a mission

I still remember William Lyons Homes mission statement was to, “…make you smile all the way home

Do you have a clear simple mission statement or a tagline?

If your mission statement is unclear, you may take work for the income and compromise who you are as a business.

The most important factor in hiring is knowing your company’s mission and practicing it.

Be clear.

From your mission statement, you have clear guidelines. Like William Lyon Homes, they strived for happiness with all their customers.

Look for diversity

The most successful teams require diversity.

You aren’t hiring a best friend.

You shouldn’t be looking for copies of yourself.

You want talents that you don’t have

If you’ve got the “pretty” down you might need a more tech savvy person.

If you’re more type A and structured, you might consider hiring someone more type B and flexible.

Diversity brings new perspectives to the table and will enhance your client’s overall experience with your services.

Practice teamwork by utilizing individual strengths

We need leaders and supporters. You as the leader need to make sure the right people are in the room

Just because you’re the CEO doesn’t mean you need to be running all the meetings, taking all the intake calls and heading up the newest marketing campaign.

We each have individual strengths, so loosen the reins a little and allow team members to take initiative and try their ideas!

A couple of ways to demonstrate teamwork on a daily basis

  • Do not micromanage, teach instead
  • Communicate effectively! And be clear
  • Give constructive feedback and be open to receive feedback

As you’re building your cohesive teams, remember to celebrate successes!

Successes come in different forms.

A good leader is aware of the small and large successes

You as the CEO have a great impact so bring donuts, take the team to lunch, etc

As an entrepreneur, I want you and your team to be operating out of passion and keep you excited about your business.
