Getting vulnerable over here

Let me tell you a vulnerable story about decision making…

As I was having a milestone birthday, turning 50, I was in a relationship with my ex-husband for 28 years and married for 26 of those years. After our two children were out of the house, I had the opportunity to evaluate our relationship.

I probably shouldn’t have waited this long, however a decision needed to be made about how I was going to spend the second half of my life.

It seemed like a good marriage from the outside, but really looking deeper, I came to the conclusion I’d rather be alone than alone in my marriage.

It was a hard decision.

It needed to be made.

And look, decision making is a key skill not only in the workplace but in your personal life as well.

Particularly important if you want to be an effective leader

Whether you’re deciding which person to hire, which supplier to use, or which strategy to pursue, the ability to make a good decision with available information is vital

And making decisions in your business affects your personal life too

Here’s my process on decision making…

  1. Evaluate circumstances, consider alternatives and weigh pros and cons
  2. Narrow Your Options. Do Your Research. Get a Well-Informed Opinion
  3. Use critical-thinking skills to reach objective conclusions.
  4. Evaluate the Significance
  5. Are able to make decisions under pressure?
  6. Don’t sweat the small stuff
  7. Help teams overcome obstacles

Not every decision will pan out how you imagined

Instead of trashing the new decision, really consider what worked (the con) and how do we need to replace it (a pro)

If we aren’t making tough decisions, we aren’t and effective leader

Giving you a little bit of tough love and encouraging you to do the hard stuff in your business.
